5 Things You Must Know When Considering Wrinkle Injections

Hi! I am Dr Michael Szalay and today I am going to talk about wrinkle injections.

Wrinkles, frown lines and crow’s feet are natural signs of ageing that unfortunately we can’t prevent.

However, advancing cosmetic technology has made it possible for people to reduce the unsightly appearance of their wrinkles and to improve the appearance of their facial skin as they age.

Wrinkle injections is a commonly performed procedure aimed at rejuvenating facial skin and achieving a younger looking appearance.

Before you rush in to a treatment, here are a few things you should know that will help make your decision easier.

Wrinkle injections work by relaxing muscles

People often confuse muscle relaxing wrinkle injections with dermal fillers. However,  these treatments are different and work in different ways.

Whilst dermal fillers are injected to achieve more youthful skin by plumping out the tissue, muscle relaxants aim at relaxing certain facial muscles that cause wrinkles.

Wrinkle Injections are simple and quick

The fear of painful injections prevents many people from getting anti-wrinkle treatments and achieve a refreshed, youthful appearance. The truth is wrinkle injections are a simple and quick procedure.

Wrinkles injections use fine needles that don’t cause much discomfort when they come in contact with your skin. The discomfort caused in the procedure can be compared to a small pinch or the sting of a mosquito.

It is not a permanent treatment

For the average person, the results of wrinkle injections last for about three to six months. Maintenance treatments which can be performed three to four times a year, are necessary to maintain the result.

Wrinkle injections result in smoother skin

Wrinkle injection treatment is performed to weaken the appearance of wrinkles resulting in a smoother appearance.

Getting the treatment performed by a professional, experienced cosmetic surgeon helps ensure optimal results whilst maintaining the natural essence of your face.

Your face will still appear natural

Wrinkle injections inactivate muscles that form crow’s feet and frown lines around one’s face. The treatment will relax the facial expression muscles that cause wrinkles, but without affecting other muscles or sensory nerves deep inside the face. This means you will still have the same facial expressions you had before the treatment (but you will be forming less wrinkles).

The Bottom Line

Though wrinkle injections are effective and widely performed, one needs to understand the procedure and everything involved before they reach a decision. Consult with your cosmetic surgeon to find out if the treatment is a suitable option for you.

Reduce signs of ageing with Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Hi! I am Dr M Szalay and today I am going to talk about anti-wrinkle injections.

If only you could turn back the years and have more youthful skin!

No matter how expensive the cosmetic products are which you use, ageing still takes its toll on your skin. Wrinkles, fine lines and crow’s feet can develop as you grow older, affecting your facial skin and appearance.

Whilst anti-aging creams can improve skin texture and irregular pigmentation, anti-wrinkle injections are gaining popularity for their non-surgical advantages and effective results.

For those considering a non-surgical way of treating their wrinkles and facial lines, here are three common questions answered in order to help you make a well considered choice.

How are anti-wrinkle injection different from surgical procedures?

Anti-wrinkle injections use naturally occurring substances like muscle relaxants and dermal fillers that cause minimal discomfort and can provide natural looking results.

Muscle relaxants are injected into facial muscles to block signals from the brain that cause the muscles to contract. This results in less or no movement of muscles, preventing the skin around the eyes and forehead from wrinkling.

Dermal fillers plump out lines and wrinkles and can add volume to areas such as the lips and cheeks.

These procedures are performed on a “walk-in, walk-out” basis and usually it is possible to return straight back to normal activities.

How quickly will I see results?

Muscle relaxants: A natural protein produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria that temporarily relaxes facial muscles that cause wrinkle, folds and creases. The results from the muscle relaxant can be evident after 48 hours with maximum effect occurring at 2 weeks.

Dermal fillers: A Dermal filler treatment involves the injection of a filling substance to add subtle volume to the skin and create a fresher and rejuvenated appearance. Dermal fillers provide immediate aesthetic results.

What do the injections involve?

The muscle relaxant injections are relatively painless and only take a few minutes to perform. There may be slight swelling where the injections occurred and this typically settles after an hour. The results typically last about 3-6 months.

Dermal fillers, on the other hand, take around 15 minutes to perform. Sometimes a local nerve block is used to numb the area first. An advantage of modern fillers is that they are mixed with local anaesthetic to make the procedure more comfortable. Some swelling may occur which typically resolves over 24 to 48 hours although swelling and bruising can last longer when the lips are plumped out.

The results typically last 6 to 12 months.

The bottom line

Given the ease with which anti-wrinkle injections can be performed, they can be a good option for those seeking to reduce wrinkles and achieve a more youthful appearance without undergoing a surgical procedure.

In order to obtain optimal results, it is important to find a doctor who is experienced in performing these techniques.
