Teardrop Implants: Is it The Right Breast Augmentation Choice?

Hi! I am Dr Michael Szalay and today I am going to talk about teardrop implants.

Women today are conscious about their breast appearance. Many are not happy with their natural breast shape or appearance, which has made breast augmentation a common cosmetic procedure for women wishing to improve the shape, size and contours of their breasts.
Teardrop implants, also known as anatomical breast implants, are designed to create gentle contours and the fullness of a natural breast and are therefore an ideal choice for women seeking a smooth and natural-looking breast enhancement.

Here are some common benefits of Anatomical Implants;

  • Provides a natural shape and look to the breast
  • Creates a subtle-looking breast enhancement with less volume at the top and more at the base.
  • Because of their customised shape, they are more suited to women who have breasts that are wider or narrower than average.
  • They are useful when women have breasts which are droopy because they are fuller at the bottom, which helps fill out the loose breast tissue at the lower part of the breast.

What are Anatomical Implants?

Teardrop implants have elastomer shells that are filled with cohesive silicone gel and have an asymmetrical shape with a well-projected, full lower pole and a tapered upper pole. This provides a natural shape and look to the breast.

Anatomical Vs. Round

Round implants are also filled with cohesive silicon gel and as their name suggests, are round in shape. Round implants are usually chosen by women who are seeking more upper fullness.
The choice between round implants and teardrop implants is often a difficult decision for many women. The best way to make your choice is to try on both round and teardrop implants in a firm singlet or t-shirt in front of a full length mirror.
As part of your decision making process, it is important to choose a doctor who has significant experience in performing both anatomical and round implants. An experienced doctor can help advise you as to whether you would be a good candidate for your preferred choice.

Here is an example of a teardrop implant which I performed.

Results can very among individuals. Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Motiva Ergonomix Implants

Motiva Ergonomix implants are a round implant which falls into place naturally like a teardrop implant. One advantage of this is that the risk of rotation is significantly reduced. The Motiva implants also have a bio-engineered surface which is not considered to be a risk factor for BIA-ALCL. Another advantage of this surface s that it reduces the risk of capsular hardening.

Chin augmentation for improving your profile

Hi! I am Dr Michael Szalay and today I am going to talk about chin augmentation.

The increased popularity of chin augmentation

Both men and women of different age groups are considering chin augmentation to improve their profile.

What are the benefits of chin augmentation?

Chin augmentation can improve your profile when you are viewed side-on. It does this in two ways. Firstly, enhancing the size of an underdeveloped chin improves the profile by providing more projection to the chin.

Secondly, the improved projection of the chin stretches the neck skin underneath the chin which may be loose. This also improves the profile.

How is chin augmentation performed?

There are two ways chin augmentation can be carried out.

The simplest way is to inject filler in the region of the chin on achieve the desired projection. Both temporary fillers and permanent fillers can be used. This is convenient for the patient as it can be carried out on a walk-in, walk-out basis and is relatively quick. A possible disadvantage is that if your chin is particularly recessed, large volumes of filler may be required which may not be cost-effective.

A second way to augment the chin is to surgically have a silicone implant inserted. An advantage of this method is that significant enhancement can be achieved which is permanent. A possible disadvantage is that finer nuances, dents or asymmetries cannot be corrected with a chin implant. If this concerned a patient, some filler could be added following the chin implant.

Consulting the right doctor

It is important to consult with a doctor who is experienced in performing the procedure. Your doctor should be able to show you examples of previous chin enhancements which he has performed.

Making Right Cosmetic Enhancement Decisions

Hi! I am Dr M Szalay and today I am going to talk about breast enlargement surgery.

Every woman is special and it’s their right to look gorgeous and there are number of reasons why they decide to have breast augmentation.

Underdeveloped breasts are an area of concern for some women and sometimes it can impact on their self esteem. Sometimes asymmetry can also occur.

Over the period of pregnancy and breast-feeding, there are changes that can occur to the breasts. They can lose their elasticity thereby causing sagging. This is another reason why women choose  to undergo breast augmentation.

Understanding & Considering Breast Enlargement Surgery

Breast Augmentation is a popular procedure throughout the world. It involves placing silicone implants under the breast or chest muscle which expands the breast area thereby giving a better contour and appearance.

Some women don’t like the idea of implants and may try alternative solutions such as specially designed undergarments.

The following are some reasons why women choose to undergo breast augmentation:

  • If you are dissatisfied with having smaller breasts
  • If you feel your breasts are uneven or saggy
  • When your breasts size doesn’t match your body type/shape
  • When you are unhappy with the physical changes after the pregnancy

Choosing a doctor very experienced in the breast augmentation is important in order to obtain an optimal result. It is also important to feel comfortable with your choices prior to having the procedure.

There are occasions when it may be wise to postpone your decision to have breast augmentation. These can include weight fluctuation, untreated anxiety or depression or other psychological illness. Another reason might be if you suffer from a medical condition that may increase your risk of a complication. For this reason, it is important that a detailed medical history be taken by your doctor prior to your procedure.

What to Do to Improve Recovery Post Eyelid Surgery

Hi! I am Dr M Szalay and today I am going to talk about improving recovery post eyelid surgery.

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, can be an excellent procedure to rejuvenate the upper part of the face.
Whether undergoing an upper eyelid lift or lower lid surgery, surgical eyelid correction can significantly improve an individual’s facial appearance whilst improving puffiness and sagging wrinkled skin around the eyes.

However, the surgery may take some time to show complete results. In the meantime, it is very helpful if the patient adheres to post-operative guidelines in order to avoid complications.

We have a few vital tips and considerations in order to experience an easier and faster recovery period and get the most out of an eyelid surgery.

Keep the head raised
Following a blepharoplasty, the patient is advised to keep the head elevated when resting or sleeping. Maintaining the head above the level of the rest of the body is necessary to help minimise swelling and will speed up the healing process. Two or three pillows can be used to support the head and keep it consistently elevated.

Apply cold compressions
Holding a cold compress on the affected eyelid area can help reduce swelling and bruising. Clean gauze pads soaked in ice can also be applied directly on the eyelid. Alternatively, you can fill a Ziploc bag with ice cubes and place it over a moist gauze pad on the operated area. This also aids in relieving the soreness experienced after the effect of anaesthesia tapers off.

Avoid strenuous activities
For at least one week following the surgery, the patient should steer clear of daily activities and tasks that can stress the eyes. Activities one should avoid include reading, watching TV, lifting heavy objects, putting on eye make-up, using contact lenses and sitting at a computer.

Stick to doctor’s advice
Dry eyes and mild discomfort may be experienced sometimes after the surgery. Keeping such complications in mind, the surgeon may prescribe lubricating eye drops and ointment along with guidelines for proper eye care, which the patient should follow in order to hasten recovery.

Additional care
In addition to the above post-operative care, it is advised to protect your eyes from dirt, dust and harmful sun rays. Use sunglasses every time you head out to shield your eyes from harmful environmental elements.

Following the aforementioned tips can reduce the chance of eye irritation post-surgery and help patients get back to their normal life more speedily.

Risks Associated with Varicose Veins

Hi! I am Dr M Szalay and today I am going to talk about risks aligned with varicose veins.

In addition to being unsightly, there are risks associated with varicose veins. It is important to be aware of these potential issues.

Varicose veins usually occur in women and can appear twisted, swollen and usually purple or blue. While most people are not bothered by their bulging veins, the condition can develop complications in some people when left untreated.

Here is a summary of some of these potential problems.

Itchy skin

It is possible to develop dry and itchy skin over the affected veins. Whilst this doesn’t require immediate treatment, it may signal a worsening of the underlying varicose veins.

As the varicose veins continue to deteriorate, there is poor drainage of the blood from the lower legs. The skin condition can also worsen and lead to varicose eczema which is characterized by red, flaky and scaly skin which can develop rashes and blisters.

The skin may become more fragile, resulting in it being more easily damaged. If the skin over the bulging vein is injured, bleeding may occur. The heavy bleeding may be difficult to stop but can be controlled by applying firm pressure to the bleeding point and elevating the affected leg.

Varicose veins interrupt the blood flow preventing the blood from draining properly through the skin. Even a small scratch, injury or any other skin change can fail to heal and develop into an  ulcer. Varicose ulcers usually form on the inner leg around the ankle and are painful.

Inflammation can occur in the veins resulting in surface blood clots which make the skin around the affected area hard, red and tender to touch. Phlebitis can be painful but is not life threatening and can be easily treated.

Treatment options for varicose veins sclerotherapy, ambulatory phlebectomy and endovenous laser therapy.

Considering Injectable Fillers? Here Are Things You Need to Know About Filler Treatments

Ageing, lifestyle and environmental factors can take their toll and have a negative impact on facial skin and tissue. As a result, some of us look for subtle ways to reverse these changes in order to enhance our appearance or improve our facial features.

Whether it is to reduce wrinkles, plump out your lips, improve your jawline or to obtain fuller cheeks, there is a range of cosmetic procedures available. Injectables can do all of these things relatively simply on a walk-in, walk-out basis.

Injectables, commonly known as dermal fillers, are a type of minimally invasive aesthetic treatment commonly administered to add volume and rejuvenate the structure of the skin. Dermal fillers can be used to reverse ageing and improve one’s appearance.

What types of dermal fillers are there?

Temporary Fillers: These  contain substances which are naturally occurring in human skin. With age, there is a reduction of these substances which leads to loss of elasticity, sagging and wrinkling. By replacing these substances, the skin and tissues are rejuvenated. Typically temporary fillers last 6 to 18 months. The newest generation of temporary fillers are crosslinked to add stability and mixed with local anaesthetic, for increased comfort during the treatment. These are the type used by Dr M Szalay.

Semi-Permanent Fillers: Effective on deeper facial lines and large spaces needing volume, semi-permanent dermal fillers have longer lasting results, though the patient may need occasional touch ups post injection.

Permanent Fillers: Permanent fillers have long lasting results. Many patients prefer permanent fillers because of their longevity. Permanent fillers are excellent for lip and cheek enhancement as well as improving the folds that can occur around the nose and mouth.

Experienced Advice

There’s no denying that fillers contribute to a smoother, more youthful facial appearance. But to make sure your treatment is safe and effective with natural results, it is important to find a cosmetic doctor experienced in the use of these products.

Reduce signs of ageing with Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Hi! I am Dr M Szalay and today I am going to talk about anti-wrinkle injections.

If only you could turn back the years and have more youthful skin!

No matter how expensive the cosmetic products are which you use, ageing still takes its toll on your skin. Wrinkles, fine lines and crow’s feet can develop as you grow older, affecting your facial skin and appearance.

Whilst anti-aging creams can improve skin texture and irregular pigmentation, anti-wrinkle injections are gaining popularity for their non-surgical advantages and effective results.

For those considering a non-surgical way of treating their wrinkles and facial lines, here are three common questions answered in order to help you make a well considered choice.

How are anti-wrinkle injection different from surgical procedures?

Anti-wrinkle injections use naturally occurring substances like muscle relaxants and dermal fillers that cause minimal discomfort and can provide natural looking results.

Muscle relaxants are injected into facial muscles to block signals from the brain that cause the muscles to contract. This results in less or no movement of muscles, preventing the skin around the eyes and forehead from wrinkling.

Dermal fillers plump out lines and wrinkles and can add volume to areas such as the lips and cheeks.

These procedures are performed on a “walk-in, walk-out” basis and usually it is possible to return straight back to normal activities.

How quickly will I see results?

Muscle relaxants: A natural protein produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria that temporarily relaxes facial muscles that cause wrinkle, folds and creases. The results from the muscle relaxant can be evident after 48 hours with maximum effect occurring at 2 weeks.

Dermal fillers: A Dermal filler treatment involves the injection of a filling substance to add subtle volume to the skin and create a fresher and rejuvenated appearance. Dermal fillers provide immediate aesthetic results.

What do the injections involve?

The muscle relaxant injections are relatively painless and only take a few minutes to perform. There may be slight swelling where the injections occurred and this typically settles after an hour. The results typically last about 3-6 months.

Dermal fillers, on the other hand, take around 15 minutes to perform. Sometimes a local nerve block is used to numb the area first. An advantage of modern fillers is that they are mixed with local anaesthetic to make the procedure more comfortable. Some swelling may occur which typically resolves over 24 to 48 hours although swelling and bruising can last longer when the lips are plumped out.

The results typically last 6 to 12 months.

The bottom line

Given the ease with which anti-wrinkle injections can be performed, they can be a good option for those seeking to reduce wrinkles and achieve a more youthful appearance without undergoing a surgical procedure.

In order to obtain optimal results, it is important to find a doctor who is experienced in performing these techniques.
