Is Your Body in Good Shape? Here Are Your Body Contouring Solutions

Standard

Hi! I am Dr M Szalay and today I am going to talk about body contouring.

How does having a well-sculpted body make a difference in one’s life? Well, you can buy some dresses that you might not have been able to fit in to. You can put on your favorite bikini (which you might have been avoiding due to unwanted bulges). You might even flaunt your figure! What’s more, a lean, toned body has been linked with better overall health.

From removing love-handles to other excess fat deposits, body contouring can help you gain a toned appearance with smoother contours and a more youthful appearance.

What Are Your Options?

Thanks to advancing medical technology, a number of techniques are available to improve an uneven appearance of the body through reshaping and skin tightening.

Liposuction, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), arm lift and thigh lift are a few popular body sculpting and tightening procedures that produce fast yet dramatic results.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a very effective and commonly performed procedure for body contouring. It achieves excellent results in many areas of the body including the abdomen, thighs, arms and waist.

The best candidates for liposuction are people who are close to their ideal weight . It is possible that they may have already tried diet and exercise but some parts of the body don’t respond to these measures. Liposuction is excellent for removing stubborn bulges.

Abdominoplasty, Arm-lift, Thigh-lift

Sometimes tissue may be very loose. Whilst some tissue tightening does occur with liposuction, there are situations where it will be necessary to surgically remove and tighten tissue such as occurs with abdominoplasty or a thigh lift.

Non-surgical techniques

One can also contour their body and maintain better a better shape through natural ways including weight loss diet, stomach flattening and body toning exercises and aerobics.

Often, great results can be achieved by combining liposuction with body toning exercises. This is especially true of the abdomen. Liposuction is excellent for reducing the fat layer on the abdomen, but abdominal muscle strengthening exercises (eg pilates) can also have an important role to play in reshaping the stomach. Here is a photo of a woman that I performed liposuction of the abdomen on:

Other non-surgical fat reduction treatments include ultrasound therapy, cold laser energy (cryolipolysis), mesotherapy and lipodissolve. However, these methods tend to be slow and result in small improvements only.

To make sure you have the most suitable procedure performed in your problem area, contact an experienced cosmetic doctor who can help you get the most out of your treatment.

Results can very among individuals. Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Thinking If Liposuction is Really Worth It? You Need To Know These Facts about the Procedure

Standard

You exercise for months, cut down on your calories, keep track of daily calorie intake and still those undesirable flanks don’t move an inch. And you think if you could just cut away that extra skin around your waist and sides.

Often overweight individuals and figure-conscious people  exercise hard to get their body in shape only to end up with no significant results. Liposuction, a cosmetic procedure, has become a popular option for such people to improve the appearance of certain body areas by removing excessive fat deposits.

While the procedure can bring a drastic change in the figure of a patient and is commonly performed,  there are some lesser known facts and benefits you should know about the procedure.

  • Modern liposuction began in 1974 with the work of 2 Italian gynaecologists, Giorgio Fischer and Arpad who created a blunt tunnelling procedure to remove fat. It then became popularized by a French surgeon, Dr Yves-Gerard Illouz  who introduced the method of infusing fluid into tissues followed by high vacuum suction. He achieved excellent results with few adverse effects.
  • Liposuction is not actually a treatment for obesity or weight loss. It is a medical procedure designed to remove fat deposits around certain body areas that are difficult to manage with regular exercise and diet. In fact, a person who is fit, active and is within 30% of his/her ideal weight is considered a good candidate for the procedure.
  • Liposuction is a specialized technique which requires extensive experience to obtain optimal results.
  • It can be performed on a variety of areas on the body. Common areas on women include the abdomen, thighs, hips, arms, buttocks, cheeks and neck.
  • Men prefer it on the waist, chin and  abdomen.
  • Remarkable results can be obtained which are evident  in before and after photos. It is important to be patient however as it usually takes a few  months for the results to appear.

To maintain results, the patient may also need to pay attention to diet and follow a regular exercise regimen.

The Top Reasons Why Women Undergo Liposuction

Standard

Hi! I am Dr M Szalay and today I am going to talk about reasons why women opt for liposuction.

Many people wonder why women want to undergo liposuction. There are actually several very good reasons why a woman might want to consider liposuction.

Popular Reasons Why Women Undertake Liposuction

Some of the common reasons why women have liposuction include:

  • To treat metabolism problems. Some women have metabolism related conditions such as lipohypertrophy that make weight loss difficult and in some cases impossible. Lipohypertrophy is a lump under the skin that does not go away; it is sometimes caused by underlying conditions such as diabetes.¹ In some cases, liposuction is the only way to get rid of such a lump. Many people develop lipohypertrophy as a side effect of insulin and other therapies used to treat diabetes.
  • To counter metabolism changes that can make it hard to get rid of fat even with diet and exercise. Age, surgery, pregnancy, and some health problems can make it hard or even impossible for some women to get rid of fat no matter how hard they exercise or diet. Liposuction can remove such fat, particularly when it accumulates around the stomach, waists and breasts.
  • To contour or shape the body. A lot of women dislike the way they look. Some women undergo liposuction in order to change features such as breasts, chins, etc., that they feel are too large.
  • As part of a fat transfer procedure. Fat which is removed from one part of the body can be used to provide a plumper, more youthful look to another part of the body which may appear sunken. Fat transfer is particularly helpful for the face, where the cheeks often benefit from a fuller appearance.

Liposuction is a highly effective procedure that can be used to treat a wide variety of situations.

What Are Common Questions About Liposuction?

Standard

Hi! I am Dr M Szalay and I have performed over 500 liposuction procedures.I would like to answer some of the most common questions I am asked by patients.

WHAT IS LIPOSUCTION?

Liposuction (or Liposculpture) is the removal of fat to reshape your body. After you are sedated, local anaesthetic is gently inserted to numb the areas as well as shrink the blood vessels to reduce bruising. Then the fat is removed using a fine hollow cannula. The incisions are very small and placed in inconspicuous areas.

HOW LONG BEFORE I SEE RESULTS?

In some areas such as the waist and inner knees, the results can be apparent in just a few days. Other areas such as the tummy and the thighs can take up to 12 weeks to get your final result so don’t worry if you are not seeing your result after a few weeks, it will come.

WHAT AREAS MOST COMMONLY TREATED?

The most common areas treated are the tummy, waist (or “muffin top”), the thighs, back of arms and neck. These are all areas that just won’t shift with diet and exercise.

HOW DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH TO REMOVE?

How I measure how much to remove is by constantly feeling your tissue during the procedure, which tells me how much fat has been removed and when is the right time to stop. Yes, I know you want me to “get it all doc” but you do need to leave a small layer behind for balanced contouring.
As a patient, I would expect you to be able to see a definite difference which we could confirm with photos at 3 months. Depending on the areas you had treated, you should also be able to achieve some other goal you were looking for, eg. go down a couple of dress sizes or no longer have your thighs rub together when you walk.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

We give you a garment which you wear for 1 week all the time and then another 5 weeks at night. This is helpful in reducing the swelling and achieving a smoother contour. You can return to the gym after just 4 days and please be careful with your diet. If you stay at the same weight that we get you too, then the fat won’t return.
